Fisher and Ivy have been an item for a whole nineteen days. And they just know they are meant to be together. The fact that they know little else about each other is a minor detail. Over the course of twelve months, in which their lives will change forever, Fisher and Ivy discover that falling in love is one thing, but staying there is an entirely different story.
The Two of Us is a charming, honest and heart-breaking novel about life, love, and the importance of taking neither one for granted.
Firstly I have to say I loved this book. I related so much to the main characters Fisher and Ivy as some of their life/relationship events mirrored mine and my husbands.
If you are expecting a fluffy love story then you will be disappointed. The book is the story of Fisher and Ivy's relationship seen through Fisher's eyes. They have been together 19 days then Ivy discovers she is pregnant.
They have to do all the things that we usually take slowly like meeting each others families and friends, deciding where to live, learning about each others habits and idiosyncrasies. Their honeymoon period is over and they have to get down to the nitty gritty of preparing for a baby while they are still practically strangers.
The book also concentrates on the touching relationship between Fisher and his friend El who he has known since school. El suffers from Huntingdon's Disease and the scenes between them gave me an insight into this disease and how it affects the person suffering and those around them.
This book is full of highs and lows and had me laughing out loud, especially when they were choosing baby names and when Ivy's brother comes to stay and is watching porn in the dead of night! It also had me openly sobbing through some very tenderly written scenes.
I read this book in 2 days as I couldn't put it down and I enjoyed every minute. I would highly recommend The Two of Us and will be looking out for other novels by Andy Jones.
